Spa Diaries

The purpose of spa diaries is to rate the services received at day spas. It also serves the dual purpose of encouraging others to indulge in this new found hobby which I fondly refer to as “spaing”.

Spa Santé– Fells point, Maryland
Full Body Massage (US$80 - $100)
Facilities: spacious, clean, inviting and fully-equipped with ample amenities– hairdressing salon, massage rooms, showers, sauna, private wait-room
Masseuse: Evidence of formal training, warm and friendly
Overall: Although the facilities were great, the massage was only good and left me wanting.

Aveda Day Spa - Corner of Havelock Street and Tragarete Road, Trinidad (opposite the Oval)
Full Body Massage (TT$250)
Facilities: Cramped, greater emphasis on cleanliness required.
Masseuse: Extremely experienced and competent
Overall: Feelings of extreme satisfaction and relaxation after the massage were erased by a rusty faucet in a cramped, somewhat smelly toilet. Also, something needs to be done about the “tissue wipe-off” at the end of the massage.

Salybia Nature Resort and Spa
Full Body Massage – Deep Tissue ($278)
Facilities: seaside resort, spacious, clean and tranquil.
Masseuse: Excellent and well-trained.
Overall: Loved the baby-oil and eucalyptus or lavender mixture (simple but effective). The service would be more effective with sauna and shower area. Again, something needs to be done about the “tissue wipe-off” at the end of the massage.
